Moultrie A-20 Mini Game Camera Review

Moultrie A-20 Mini Game Camera Review

Today we’re connected more than ever to an expanding network of technology and communication. Moultrie aims to take advantage of these changes to win our loyalty with the A-20 Game Camera. This advanced modern trail cam sports moderate features and advanced wireless capability.

We believe you may find the A-20 Game Camera to be most useful around the house for the backyard animal lover or as a starter game camera for serious hunters. Unfortunately, the features may not stand up to the most demanding sportsmen and outdoorsmen.

We’re going to take a look at the A-20 Game Camera by Moultrie and tell you what’s good and bad about this sleek piece of modern hunting tech.

Image

Moultrie equipped the A-20 with a 12MP front facing camera for high res photos of your game. Trigger speeds below one second from detection to capture ensure your photo is on time.

Images are offered in two settings, low (1500 x 1200 px) and high (4000 x 3000 px). This is great for controlling quality versus storage space when necessary.

Pictures can be set for shooting in single shot mode or burst mode to tailor your scouting exactly for your needs.

Note: Flash range is stated at up to 50ft but you may find the night range to be much lower. The camera is often criticized for very poor night photo quality.

Video

Capture video in 480p resolution (640 x 480) with a 4:3 aspect ratio (same as your standard TV or monitor). While the 480p resolution isn’t, by any means, cutting edge, it’s adequate and will save space on the SD card for longer storage. We worry that users may find the 480p resolution to be excessively grainy or blurry.

Storage and Battery

Moultrie A-20 Mini Game Camera

Use any SD card up to 32GB for photo and video storage on this trail camera. We believe you’ll find the storage capacity to be sufficient given the camera’s adjustable image settings and low storage video setting.

If you find your camera filling up on storage rapidly, simply choose the low resolution image option to save storage space.

Powered by 8 AA batteries, this camera won’t be cheap to power. It does, however, feature power saving modes such as low power motion detection to extend battery life.

Warranty

Moultrie backs the A-20 with a two-year warranty. While most have found the camera functional and durable, you can rest assured knowing it’s good to go for up to two years under warranty. Not all Moultrie cams offer the 2-year warranty so we count this as a plus for the A-20 camera.

Wireless Capability

A seriously cool feature of the Moultrie A-20 is wireless connectivity. Touted as being able to connect “almost anywhere” you can set the camera up to work with your smart phone or computer to view photos anywhere.

This feature will, however, require the additional purchase of the MV1 unit by Moultrie in order to use the wireless capability. Perhaps a neat feature for the hyper-tech savvy hunter or animal lover using the camera in the back yard.

The Good

  • Reasonably priced compared to many similar models with comparable features
  • Uses AA’s instead of C batteries which may be harder to find
  • Easy to use buttons and intuitive setup inside of the camera
  • Price and features make it a good starter camera or backyard camera
  • False positive image captures greatly reduced over previous Moultrie camera models
The Bad

  • Does not come with a lock (though it features the attachments needed for one)
  • Night photo quality (especially when moving) is reported to be moderate to poor
  • Wireless features require additional expensive equipment
  • Night flash emits a moderate red glow which may alert game
  • 480p video can be grainy or poor quality
Tips

Chances of success with night photos at closer ranges are dramatically improved. Try setting up your A-20 Game Camera within 30 feet (or less) of a feeder or bait pile. This will improve photo quality and clarity compared to the 50-foot range touted in the specs.

Use this camera in a location where you’re primarily relying on it for day time image and video capture to ensure best performance.

Conclusion

Moultrie’s A-20 Game Camera is reasonably priced and feature rich. While the camera supports advanced features such as wireless integration, it will require additional gadgets, setup, and consideration.

Based on poor night time photo and video reliability, this may not be the camera of choice for those looking testosterone cypionate uk to capture high quality or long distance night photos. Consider your uses and needs before committing to this camera.

2-year warranty support from Moultrie lends reliability and credibility to this camera so if you’re hesitant, this may reassure you.

Unfortunately, this camera does not come with a lock. If hunting on public lands (or if your neighbor is mischievous) we recommend purchasing a lock for your camera. Don’t let your expensive investment walk off.
